Scuba Diving Made Easy!

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008
scuba
By definition, Scuba Diving is the use of self contained, underwater breathing apparatus and as such was named by the uses of this equipment. When an individual going underwater for long periods of time it is essential that you have equipment to breath.

Sometimes diving takes place very deep under the sea and it wouldn’t be practical or even feasible to come up for air every half minute when you’ve run out of oxygen in your lungs. The diver wears all this equipment on his back and swims underwater with fins on the feet for easier mobility in the water much like a fish has fins.

The History of Diving

Scuba diving has been around for a long time already and was mainly designed and created to have purpose in the world wars or to be utilized in battle. The soldiers in those times used something similar to scuba diving equipment however it was called a frogman. A doctor developed this in the era of WWII by the name of Christian Lambertsen and although scuba diving is used for many reasons today, it is becoming even more popular with the advancements that it is making in the recent decades.

Risks Associated with Scuba Diving

There are many risks associated with scuba diving that may seem that they are not risks however changes in air pressure is probably the most dangerous risk facing scuba diving with the exception of getting eaten by a shark. Changes in pressure in the water can cause such extreme pressure that it can rupture an eardrum or do damage that is even less desirable.

Every part of your body is required to be equalized by the pressure surrounding you depending on the depth of water you are in and if you are changing water depths. Another common known scuba diving problem is called oxygen toxicity, which is especially dangerous, and life threatening in that it can cause seizures and has often resulted in the diver drowning.

However like any other accident, this is a completely preventable issue by following diving instructions properly and safely. Nitrogen narcosis can affect a diver when he gets to sixty-six feet and generally dissipates immediately as the diver sinks lower than this depth. There are many dangers that face a diver and it is wise to get professional guidance.

scuba
The tropical Indonesian island of Bali is still attracts millions of tourists every year. Tourists on vacations to Bali are attracted by the mystique, charms and allure of the predominantly traditional Hindu culture, spectacular tropical jungles, mountains and beautiful beaches. Many tourists especially from nearby Australia and Singapore travel to Bali for scuba Diving. The islands in Bali are well known for its excellent scuba diving locations.

Scuba divers in Bali can expect to encounter awesome underwater landscape as well as sighting a very wide array of marine sea creatures. Let’s visit some scuba diving Bali dive spots.

In Nusa Penida and Lembongan Islands, there are spectacular drop off reefs making reef and wall diving the predominant staple on these two scuba diving locations. It takes about a 45 minute speedboat ride to reach these dive destinations.

Water visibility is excellent all year round but the current here is stronger. Experienced divers will love it here as they can enjoy some drift dives. However, the current may get very strong occasionally and dives may have to be abandoned when this happens.

The dive sites at Nusa Dua and Sanur are just 5 minutes away from the coast and therefore easily assessable. The novice divers will love these dive spots because of the gentle current. Water visibility ranges from low to moderate since they are located in the coastal area and are more affected by pollution. Although hard coral life is limited, the dive spots have a surprisingly diversity of marine fishes, soft corals and sponges which are thriving on the reefs.

There is a very wide variety of corals, colorful sea fans and huge pelagic fishes here. Big schools of sweet lips fish, turtles, sharks and manta rays are often sighted by excited scuba divers.

Jemeluk and Amed Beaches are one and half hour away from Denpasar. Denpasar is a popular tourist coastal town with many wonderful hotels, resorts and night entertainment. Scuba divers need to be very experienced as the current here can get very strong. However the dives here can be very exciting because of long coastal reefs, reef slopes/drop offs and majestic wall diving. Water visibility can be considered as moderate to good. To add a final touch, these dive spots have one of the best hard coral communities in Bali.

The Tulamben Wreck Dive is a must dive spot for scuba divers to enjoy wreck diving. The water visibility here is fair to good and the current is gentle. Night dive on this wreck are often described as breathtaking.

The wreck, USS Liberty which met its fate in 1942 when a Japanese torpedo fired from a submarine in the second world war found its target.

The above are just some of the many splendid scuba diving destinations in Bali. For more superb dive sites, just contact the many scuba diving operators in Bali Island.

AAR asked:

when scuba diving because you have limited amount of air, how is the air inhaled in regards to the rate of breathing? is it done at a rate which is normal to that of being out of water like everyday breathing? or do you have to control your breathing and hold your breaths before inhaling again? does a person who is scared of water or deep seas use more air than a normal diver? lastly what is a rebreather is this different to scuba tank air? and if it is which method gives more time underwater?

London Scuba Lessons From Diving Schools London

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008
scuba
Summer is here. It’s time for the family to learn scuba diving.  Diving schools, like London Diving have PADI diving instructors ready and waiting to teach you. The London scuba is a must and London diving are ready to help you unlock the door to a whole new sensational experience.

The same excellent PADI diving instructors of London diving schools run you through a series of diving lessons that are designed to get you off the heated pool and into the open water quick.  Scheduled lessons start you on the basics of safe diving, planning dives, and proper use of diving equipment.   Once the scuba basics are mastered, the next step is to test your mettle in London’s famous diving spots.

London scuba schools in London have complete facilities for scuba diving lessons. They also observe stringent instruction standards for beginners and scuba instructor training.  London diving schools ensure that all diving students learn the basics of safe diving and proper use of diving equipments and master confined water diving before an open sea dive is carried out in London’s beaches.

Students preferring to take complete their scuba diving lessons outside London, they are provided open sea referrals from the diving schools.  A diving referral will allow students to take their open sea dive in any PADI affiliated beaches all over the world.  Hence, London scuba schools offer a cheaper alternative – students are ready for the open sea when they seek the Caribbean or the Seychelles for the diving challenge.

London Diving schools provide modules–confined water diving, learning additional scuba principles to enhance the basic diving skills acquired under the close supervision of PADI certified instructors, hence small classes of 8 to 10 students are conducted per session.  Smaller classes make for effective and focused training.

It takes about three days for beginners to learn scuba diving with the help of modern scuba diving equipments–breathing regulators, buoyancy devices, scuba masks, gauges and fins that can be bought from the diving schools.  London scuba schools offer top brands like UK Lights, and Scubapro and a host of other top names in scuba diving equipment and gear.

Choosing the London Scuba Diving School

There are several scuba diving schools in and around London.  Diving enthusiasts and beginners can choose the London scuba diving headquarters accessibly convenient for them.   An added convenience is the diving module on video that you can watch at home prior to the next lessons in the pool.

There are different types of scuba diving and London scuba instructors have the credentials for recreational, technical, commercial, and military scuba diving. Specialized scuba diving for night diving, ice diving, altitude diving, rescue and cave diving are also offered for advanced students and hobbyists.   Ask the diving schools for their competencies for the different scuba diving courses and compare their rates and facilities, or their proximity to your hotel or residence.

Before enlisting in a London scuba center, inform them if you have any disability and if you are free from medical problems that might interfere with your training.  Fortunately, diving schools in London can tailor fit diving lessons for people with disabilities and children with special needs.

London scuba diving schools offer summer getaways in exotic diving spots teeming with marine life and local culture.  Make it this year or next year, but first learn how to dive safely and expertly with the experts.

Where To Find Used Scuba Gear

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008
scuba
If you are planning to try your hand at scuba diving, then you must have had a lot of realizations. One is that scuba diving is not as easy as it seems. Considered formally as a sport, scuba diving is not like other sports because it requires not just strengthening of a particular body area but rather overall wellness and fitness. Another disappointing and probably alarming realization you might have had is that the price with which scuba diving comes translates to a lot. This means that, in order to play the game, you might have to shell out a lot of money. This is exactly why scuba diving is deemed as a recreational sport by some – only a few people can afford to scuba dive as much as they can because it involves a lot of money. So if you are planning to be one of those people, then it might be time for you to find places where you can buy used scuba gear.

Why should I buy used scuba gear?

Taking from the word itself, used scuba gear is scuba gear that has been used for a certain period of time. You may sneer at the idea of buying used scuba gear. This is not surprising since the thought of buying something that has been used by other people may seem inconceivable and even foolish. However, the price by which scuba diving equipment comes for can be very taxing, and it may be very illogical for you to get a brand new set of each tool and gadget needed in your scuba equipment. Rather than going for this kind of illogical move, the only alternative available for you is to buy used scuba gear. In the end, you save a lot of money without necessarily compromising the quality. You ought to remember that, sometimes, you have to compromise your values in order to attain what will be, in the end, best for you.

Also, you should look into buying used scuba gear if you don’t think you are going to use it successively. If you are planning to buy scuba gear just because you will need one whenever you take a vacation – which is something that only happens every once in a while – then, you better go and buy used scuba gear.

What components should I look for in buying used scuba gear?

Admittedly, it is not ideal for you to buy an overall used scuba gear. For example, if you are going to buy an overall used scuba gear that includes a used scuba suit, then you might have a problem with that. A used scuba suit implies that the suit has not only been worn from head to toe by the original possessor, but it has also been stretched to its limits. You cannot expect the medium size of a brand new scuba suit to be the same size of a medium-sized used scuba suit. This is because the fabric has been stretched, and many damages have been done to it. Therefore, you should look into the matter of buying used scuba gear very carefully. For all you know, you may be buying all the wrong components in a used scuba gear.

But there are also excellent choices for a used scuba gear. For example, buying a used underwater compass might be ideal, inasmuch as an underwater compass is something that does not easily break. Also, buying a brand new compass is very expensive. In the end, the expense by which a brand new compass comes is not worth it. You might get the same quality with a used scuba compass, if you look hard enough.

Some Information on Scuba Diving

Monday, August 18th, 2008
scuba
Scuba is the acronym that refers to Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus, and it is through this equipment that many different kinds of underwater exploration are possible, though today it also means various groups all over the world that scuba dive for the enjoyment and wonder that it brings a diver. Almost every seaside destination has some kind of diving program that can help a person gain experience in the particular location of their choice, whether tropical or more coastal America, and it is these exotic locales that many people decide to visit in order to gain a great amount of experience in order to dive in more hazardous or plausibly dangerous spots.

Being self-contained, the diver does not need to be just a few meter below the surface of the water, but instead can get one of the closest contacts to the underwater ecosystem that happens to be there for the diver’s analysis. The diver carries all the necessary gear to allow for them to breath comfortably under the water, and in the environment of the water, the equipment doesn’t seem as heavy as it might feel on land. Some divers choose to rely solely on fins and their own strength to glide around the water, but others choose to use motorized small vehicles to propel them further along, still others attach themselves to devices that keep them tethered to a boat somewhere floating above them.

Scuba diving is still an evolving form of undertaking, but there are some general classifications that have appeared over the short time that scuba diving has been a valid term in use that aren’t limited to the terms as follows, such as recreational diving and technical diving though can also be taken to mean military and commercial diving as well. The category depends upon the choice of the diver, and the supplied equipment that is used depending on the diver’s particular need, all these things come together to better allow the diver to understand what they do and how to do it better.
