I’m not aware of any scuba diving colleges exactly. Most people learn through ’schools’, but they’re not conventional schools – they’re dive centres. You can check out online ,or try your local white pages (or yellow pages, depending on where in the world you are!) for clubs and dive centres and they’ll give you the info. In the meantime, try the BSAC, PADI, NAUI, CMAS and SSI websites (easy to find!!) for more details, and they’ll also list clubs close to home where you can find out details.

As far as how much they make – that’s a leading question! You’re unlikely to make ANY money until you reach DiveMaster level (or equivalent), which is where you start really being of assistance to a club. Until that point, you can safely say that it’ll cost YOU rather than you receiving money! After DiveMaster you might start balancing your costs perhaps, but you’re not likely to actually make much money once you take your costs into consideration. Most Instructors that I know are on a commission basis so it depends on how many classes they teach. If they’re a full time Instructor for a dive centre, you’ll probably get a basic salary plus commission. You’re unlikely to ever become mega-rich by doing it, but it’s not such a bad life!!

Are you sure you’re looking for scuba and not commercial diving schools. There’s a difference. Most scuba is taught from a dive shop, whereas commercial diving actually is taught in some colleges.
Here’s one that’s local to me that I know the top Prof.
Commercial divers make a varied range of pay. The more certifications you have, the higher the rate as a rule. There are a lot of specialities. Welding, demolitions, construction, salvage, dive supervisor, chamber operators, chamber medics, just to name a few.
Some areas of the world also maintain fixed rates for some jobs. Lateral penetration of pipe is a good example.
So..it’s difficult to give you an exact figure on earnings. As low as 35 grand a year to over 120 grand for a saturation diver is as close as I can quote. Sometimes it’s not what you do, but where you do the job that can make a large difference in pay.

The above two answers are great. The only thing I’ll add is a couple salary resources:

The US Department of Labor has a page that lets you look up wages by profession.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes the “Occupational Outlook Handbook”. This is a fantastic resource for learning what the requirements are for different jobs, and earnings ranges.

You won’t find “SCUBA Diver” as job title in many places. Being a diver is the primary function, or at least a requirement of the job, for lots of positions though. Start with the OOH to get the titles of positions and then research wages from there.
