I have a tat ( the Amphibious Outfitters Scuba Frog naturally). You should wait until the skin surface has healed, which is going to depend on how fast you heal and if you're properly following the artist's directions for care after getting the tat. I was out of the water for only a week.

I take it you've never had a tatt before? The number one thing to be concerned about is infection. Any decent shop will tell you not to get your tatt submerged in water for a considerable period of time. I certainly wouldn't go into the ocean with a raw tatt. Nasty!

you are not suppose to submerge a new tattoo in water until healed simply because it can cause the ink to fade .........so that will waste your money........unless of course you bandage the tattoo and it is in a location on your body that will be complety covered with the wet suit then it should be ok cause it wont get wet
